First XI vs. Hanley Castle & Upton - 31 May - First Win for 1st XI!

Canon Frome started the 4th league game knowing that a win was imperative after a poor start to the season.

The toss was won by Hanley Castle who decided to have a bat and on a wicket that was doing a bit made slow progress. Young bowlers Beale (6-33) & L.Watkins (0-29) again led the way with aggression and control together!! Veterans Rogers (0-40) & Styles (2-35) then took up the mantel in restricting the visitors to under 80 off the first 30 overs, they pushed on later in the innings and finished with 175 - 8 off their 50 overs. Beale had bowled superbly throughout and thoroughly deserved his first league 5 wicket haul with figures of 10-2-33-6.

Frome's reply started badly with teenage trio of P. Andrews (4), L. Watkins (0) & Backhouse (0) all falling cheaply leaving the home side tottering at 15-3. This brought Rogers & N.Andrews (Senior) to the wicket who started in a positive fashion. In 20 overs the pair put on 161 with Rogers finishing unbeaten on 80* and Andrews finishing the game with a slog six, 72*.

All in all a very satisfactory result reaching the 176 required with 7 wickets remaining and 20 overs to spare. Frome hope to continue this form as they travel to Himbleton next week.
