Second XI vs. Himley - 09 Jul - Run-fest for Frome as the rain saves Himley.

After a slightly delayed start Captain Badger lost the toss and was asked to bat. Hughes and Badger took to the middle and began to play with confidence, both finding the boundary and easy runs early on. They put on 87 for the first wicket when badger was out LBW for a good 32. The Fielding side certainly had a lot to say for themselves early on with the best "sledge" coming when Hughes edged one through gullly for 4. "Lets call him Mr. Doughnut, all edge and no middle" came the chat from behind the stumps. B. Child could only manage 8 before being caught and bowled. Hughes at the other end was now joined by P. Elkington who set about hitting some big sixes, before eventually picking a fielder out at deep mid wicket off a high full toss. With the score on 181, Hughes well past 50 and being joined by in form S. Andrews Frome were starting to eye up a big score. Both batsmen set about hitting boundary after boundary and shared a big partnership bringing up 50 for Andrews and 100 and then 150 for Hughes. It was one shot too many for Hughes as he edged one to 1st slip and was out for156. M. Godsall, another of Fromes in form batsmen had been waiting a long time to bat made 2 not out, when Captain badger declared in the 42nd over. This decision was made on the grounds that a huge black cloud had descended over the ground, and a rain delay looked certain.

Unfortunately after an hour and a half delay the rain came again and the game was abandoned. There's no doubt that Frome would of surpassed the 300 mark given the time, and that given the quality of our bowlers it would of been doubtful Himley would of scored the runs. Especially considering the highest total scored against us this year is 171.
