Second XI vs. Avoncroft - 13 Aug - Frome beaten away at Avoncroft

Frome turned up to this game needing points to claim 3rd spot in the league, captain Badger lost the toss and we were asked to bat first. Hughes and Richards set about making their mark with good opening stand passing 50 until Hughes was caught for 27, S. Andrews came to the middle and quickly struck a much needed boundary but then was caught at deep square leg on the hook and departed for 4. In form B.Child came to the middle and began to rebuild the innings sensibly with captain Richards until the skipper was out for a good 40. Another of Fromes in form batsmen M. Godsall joined Child and both played really well and put on a good partnership with child making 44 and M. Godsall making 42. Then with D. Child making 7, B. Shimwell and C.Cottrell making 0 Frome where wobbling short of making 200. Then Roger Keep was unluckily Run out without facing a ball, it was left to L. Cottrell (13*) and J. Godsall (6*), with some confident hitting to long on, to get Frome over the 200 mark. Frome 211 for 9.

Frome needed to get early wickets to defend this total, but with both their openers playing shots without giving any chances it started to look difficult when the home team past 70 with out loss. L. Cottrell got the break-through but this bought another partnership together with both batsmen passing 50 and the target getting closer. C. Cottrell bowled well and picked up another wicket along with Hughes and B.Child. L. Cottrell got another 2 wickets and Frome only really had a sniff of victory with not many runs to play with. The home team knocked of the runs to win by 4 wickets, with L, Cottrell returning the best figures of 3 for 50.

Look to the next game now, after being beaten by the better team on the day.
