First XI vs. Coombs Wood - 04 May - First league game of the season and a maximum 24 points for the Frome

A maximum for the Frome in this the first league game of the season. 24 points. Stand in skipper Badge Richards lost the toss and was set for some extensive ball chasing on a large pitch as Coombs Wood elected to bat. They notched up 191 for 6 in the 45 overs. Wickets for James Hughes, Luke Cottrell and James Fortnam who offered a large and varied menu. Badge and Will Godsall made up the overs with some interesting slower balls.

Probably a below par total to chase but with a relatively limited batting line up having met the challenge to only use two cars to travel to the game it proved a challenge to stay on the run rate. Hughes opened with Mark Godsall but lost his wicket early on being replaced by Fortnam who immediately took on the bowling with classy driving. He was ultimately defeted by bordom waiting for the delivery of the slowest ball of the day. but had done a great job adding 40 runs in quick order. Badge joined Mark and they put on the best part of a 100 runs. Mark finally fell on 58. Badge stayed relatively calm and carried on with Simon Cottrell plus some helpful extras to get to the target with a couple of overs to spare. So with a tail shorter than a Manx cat's this was a good performance.
