Under 11 XI vs. Eastnor - 15 Jun - Under 11 XI vs Eastnor “Another close shave Canon Frome”

The U11’s were in confident mood and with yellow class bragging rights at stake they were really up for this fixture. Captain Marcus won the toss and elected to field on an overcast morning, perhaps he was expecting the ball to swing a little.
CF started well with the ball bowling straight deliveries to keep Eastnor to 202 after 4 overs with George H’s best bowling so far this season he kept the pressure on the batsmen to make them attempt a risky quick single but Jasper W was quicker and ran one out. The CF second bowling pair bowled with some mixed fortune and took three Eastnor wickets including a spectacular bowler’s end run out by George H and this put Eastnor on 200 runs after 8 overs. The next 8 overs bowled by Millie, Will, Sylvie and Joe produced some good accurate bowling, with Millie bowling a maiden over and Sylvie bowling out a batsman. CF had restricted Eastnor to 220 off 16 overs. The last four overs produced more CF fine bowling and the Eastnor innings ended on 225.
CF Bowling figures
Marcus – 3 – 0 – 14 -1 / George H – 2 – 2 – 0 – 0 / Jasper – 2 – 0 – 14 – 1 / Joe – 3 – 0 – 13 – 1
Millie – 3 - 1 – 9 – 0 / Will W – 2 – 0 – 8 – 0 / Sylvie – 3 – 0 – 10 – 1 / Sam B 2 – 0 – 5 – 0

The CF openers started with gusto and George H cracking 3 quality blows through square leg and he finished on 16 n.o; CF on 229 for 0 after four. Millie and Ben W were the next pair in and played solidly together and CF were on 225 for 2 after 8 overs. Joe and Will W continued in the same way with the loss of only a single wicket during their four overs and CF were 236 for 3 after 12. Sam and Sylvie received some spirited bowling from Eastnor and a when a moment of indecision between the players left both stranded a run out resulted. CF now on 230 for 6 after 16 and suddenly Eastnor were sensing a possible second win of the season. The last CF pair Jasper and George H entered for the last four overs, tension and excitement on both sides were plain to see and when a risky single resulted in another CF run out. Eastnor were buoyant but cometh the hour, cometh the Harris and George who had played a blinder all morning, shouldered arms to bat out the last over and finish on a total of 228 to seal our first win of the season by 3 runs.
Even though George has taken much of the praise for an all-round individual performance, I would like to thank all the players for taking part and especially the girls with Millie, playing in her first hardball game and Sylvie chipping in with both runs and wickets.
CF Batting
Marcus R – 4* / George – 16* / Millie – 1 / Ben W – 3* / Joe – 1 / Will W – 0*/ Sam – 4 / Sylvie – 6 / Jasper – 0 / George – 1.
