Under 11 XI vs. Ross-on-Wye - 01 Jun - “A good U11 performance but came up short”

Canon Frome U11’s played their first league match of the 2014 season with a tough encounter away to Ross. The team produce a very good all round performance both in the field and with the bat. CF lost the coin toss and Ross elected to bat. They made a steady progress by taking quick singles against some good bowling from CF to get to 265 after four pairs. In the last four overs CF took five Ross wickets between them and kept Ross to a modest total of 240 runs.
In reply CF were looking at two runs per over to chase down the Ross score. Our first pair of George H & Will B started a well and kept ahead of the run rate at 210 with the loss of one wicket after 4 overs. Marcus and Ben continued the good scoring however they lost some ground in their last two overs and we were on 203 for 3 after 8 overs. The third and fourth pairs push the score on to 246 for 4 after 16 and after a fall of a wicket in the 18th, we were still in the hunt for the win but with a last ball run out we came up just short.
All the boys played extremely well under warm conditions and kept their cool with all the days’ issues in coping with the delayed start. Marcus marshalled his troops well from wicket keeper and the Ross stand in coach commented on how well we fielded during the match.
