Under 9 XI vs. Wormelow - 10 May - First game of the season.. plenty of positives

The U9 season got underway today with an away fixture against Wormelow. Blustery but dry conditions ... game on!

Wormelow won the toss and invited Canon Frome to bat. Alex and Henry opened the innings and did a good job against accurate bowling. they edged the score to 213 without losing a wicket. Gabby and Izzy were next in and run some quick singles. Despite the loss of a couple of wickets the score remained above 200. It was the first competitive game for Jensen who came to the crease with Bertie, and they communicated well pinching a couple of helpful singles. Archie and Harry both taking part in their first games did a good job in the middle order protecting their wickets. Zac also playing his first game closed out the innings with some help from Bertie took the score back to 200; good work!

it was clear early on that Wormelow were very strong with the bat, but Alex struck early clean bowling one of the openers. all Frome players had a bowl and showed real determination throughout the 20 overs. Alex got another wicket and Henry his first. Great fielding from Gabby secured a run out so Frome ended up taking 4 wickets in total. Wormelow ended up with 300+ so a convincing win.
Well done to all Frome players. they stuck to the job in hand despite the cold and wind. Plenty of positives, with so many playing their first ever competitive game... We now look forward to the next game.
thanks to our supporters today.
