Under 9 XI vs. Luctonians & Bartestree (at Luctonians) - 13 Jul - Won 1 & Lost 1

Game 1. Frome v Luctonians was expected to be a tough ask, and so it proved to be. Luctonians batted first and accumulated a sizeable total of 292 in their 15 overs. It had all looked so promising when Theo clean bowled the Lucs opener on his first ball of the day. There were two more wickets taken with Theo back in the action taking a good catch in the deep from Bertie B and Robbie also proving to be a safe pair of hands with a quality take from Archie B’s bowling in the final over. But Frome had given away rather too many extras today.
So to the batting: Bertie/Henry made a good start taking the score to 209. Then came Theo and Archie B who communicated very well with some excellent running between the wickets. Katie and Gabriella were simply not going to give away their wickets on the cheap but runs were hard to come by and with some accurate bowling the scorers were not unduly troubled. Jasper and Rowan had to face Lucs captain Harvey who took two well deserved wickets, so by the time the final pair of Robbie and Archie A came in there was no chance of getting close to the target. Nonetheless they hit the ball hard. A couple of late wickets saw the total restricted to 221 and a 70 odd run defeat for Frome. Well done Lucs. Stronger in all departments, but some lessons learnt.

And so to game 2.. Canon Frome v Bartestree. Captain for the day Robbie won the toss and noting the overcast conditions fancied there was some swing to be had and decided to invite Bartestree to have a bat.
Alex followed by Bertie opened proceeding. Bertie took a wicket with a good catch by Henry at mid on. Henry also got a wicket in his first over with a great catch by Jasper fielding close. Well done to Katie and to Rowan who both showed real improvement in accuracy. Jasper gave away just a single in his over and Bartestree were on 218 after 6 overs. Gabriella, Archie A and Archie B gave away very little from the bat but extras took the score to 229. Robbie brought himself on to bowl and secured a clean bowled from his first ball. Final few overs were also tight and super clean bowled by Alex in the final over resulted in a “gettable” total of 237. So if CFCC could keep cool heads and not give away early wickets they would be safe.

Henry and Bertie again opened the innings but progress was checked when Henry was caught brilliantly in cow corner. Otherwise the pair batted sensibly. Archie B and Alex came to the crease and added a very useful 24 runs in their 3 overs with 2 x 4s from Alex. Once again Garbriella and Katie were resolute not to give away their wickets and also snatched a couple of useful singles. So 242 after 9 overs. Jasper and Rowan communicated well and congrats to Jasper for that straight drive and finishing on 7 not out. The final pair of Archie and Robbie were well aware what they had to do with the score on 259. They played out a maiden over and a single coming from the penultimate over. The final over was somewhat of a formality ... but Frome did lose one final wicket but not before Robbie had added 8 in two balls. So a final score of 261 and a 24 margin was a fair result. Well done Frome.
