First XI vs. Goodrich - 06 May - Styler Stars in Wet One at Goodrich

Well another Canon Frome Cricket Club season began as expected in the rain but as it was at Goodrich, of course we played.

Things begun badly with senior administrator from here on called "badger" forgetting to pick up newly poached bowler on route. The nature of the team dictated a points mean prizes attitude so "skip" decided to bowl first.

The innings started well with skip (2 - 76) bowling a straight one (unlucky bat) but what followed was a stand of 143 for the 2nd wicket. But as someone said at tea "I hope he's playing the lottery tonight", referring to the number of balls chipped over fielders or into gaps. It took the "too cool" Andy Lloyd (2 - 30) to come on before the partnership was broken with 2 wickets in his first over. Dave Huckerby (2 - 66) bowled well and chipped in with a couple of wickets but with a quick outfield Fodder struggled to contain Goodrich's batting line up. Louis Watkins bowled well with just 2 runs coming off the penultimate over of the innings leaving Goodrich with 291 - 6.

Fodders innings got off to a poor start when a "Neil Andrews stylie" James Fortnam was adjudged LBW with as big a stride as he could get in. At the other end a certain Mr Styles was struggling but felt the only way to get a rest was by battering the Goodrich bowlers through the trees & over the bank! Dave Huckerby started in much the same way but went early (24). Skip & Badger didn't hang around long but Styler still continued to plunder runs at the other end. Dan "also too cool" Watkins looked good but fell for 10 and Andy Lloyd joined him back in the pavilion for the same score. Styler eventually fell for 88 (10 fours, 5 sixes) in a stunning innings, Marcus who was playing through the pain was then out to a stunning catch leaving Louis & newly poached Terry Cassidy to play out the remaining overs for 166 -8.
8pts from the first game was not a bad result against a strong Goodrich team, next week local derby (well close enough), Bartestree at home.
