First XI vs. Himbleton - 02 Jun - Will we ever win the toss?

With the wicket showing signs of dampness and Andy late in arriving , stand in Forts carried on in fine style by losing the toss and we were asked to bat first . Badger tinkled the bell to signal the start of the game with a new found relish for his additional responsibility of chief bell ringer . Oh gosh dearie me as a procession of batsmen came and went , Andy skied one , Hucks missed an off cutter , Forts forgot to get back into his ground having defended back to the bowler whose return throw ran him out and Styler also skied one to mid wicket as we crumbled to 27 for 4 . Alec soon fell and when Jacob's brief flirtation with run scoring ended we had reached 57 for 6 . Then came a partnership between Lloydy and Kit of 55 for the 7th wicket , Lloydy a measure of calm at the crease while Kit fidgeted about like a girl who'd lost her make up box . Kit eventually holed out to long on and Lloydy missed a straight one as they both fell in the 43 rd over . Louis made his way to double figures , Paul hit a boundary and Bell Ringer Badge remained not out as the innings finished on 133 all out .
Early breakthroughs were necessary as the now dry wicket and Andy was successful in his 2nd over , trapping the opener lbw , this following a slight delay to the start of their innings whilst Badg trotted off to make sure the bell was rung ! No further success came until the score had reached 77 when Oliver smashed Paul's first ball back at him , in defence as much as anything else Paul's hands held on to take a stunning catch with most people looking towards the pavilion to see which parts of his body had been removed by the ball ! Louis soon struck again to reduce the visitors to 109 for 3 , but no further joy came our way as half chances and dropped catches proved costly , maybe not to affect the overall result but certainly more pressure could have been applied if the catches had been held on to .
So another disappointing result but promising preformances from some of the younger elements of the team , prompting questions from the opposition of whether we had reversed the batting order for some reason !
We are however excelling at bell ringing and tea eating , another promising sign as we search for the new Foxy
