First XI vs. Hanley Castle & Upton - 09 Jun - Finally a victory !!

Frome 1 travelled to Hanley Castle on a humid afternoon , Andy continued the losing streak as far as the toss was concerned and we fielded first . Styler struck early inducing an edge to Forts behind the stumps for an early breakthrough . The next wicket proved more difficult to find as the home team's no three bat stroked his way to a half century . It took a diving left handed catch at slip by Styler off Kit's bowling to snare the second wicket , closely followed in the next over by Andy bowling the free scoring no three . We began to take a degree of control then as the young trio of bowlers , Kit , Louis and Paul combined with plenty of effort in the field resulted in HC&U totalling 197 for 9 from their alloted 50 overs . Kit ended with 4 wickets and Paul 3 , just rewards for some fine bowling .
A good start was essential and Styler and Kit strode to the crease intending to do just that . Styler was dropped on nought , then dropped again on nought but both he and Kit began to settle nicely , taking the total to 42 before Kit was caught for 10 .Dan joined Styler and was positive in his approach , the score moved along to 73 when Styler crunched a drive straight into cover's hands . Andy then entered the fray , caressing his way to 45 before he skied one , at this stage we were 134 for 3 from 34 overs , still looking good . Forts committed suicide , dancing down the track and missing a straight one , Neil and Dan edged our way towards the total but they both departed and when Matt M ,after some lusty blows skied a catch , we were still some 20 runs from victory with the overs running out . This provided the stage for Badger and Louis to steer the ship home , Louis ending 1 not out while Badge struck 2 consecutive boundaries to clinch the win with 2 overs remaining , the winning margin being two wickets .
So a fine first win of the season , prompting comments from our esteemed hon sec that winning that game was better than having a good shag!
