First XI vs. Old Elizabethans - 16 Jun - So close and yet so far

Unsurprisingly on a damp wicket and with Andy again losing the toss , we were asked to bat first . Styler and Kit both departed with the score on 5 but Hucks and Dan undertook an excellent repair job , putting on 76 for the 3rd wicket before Hucks departed for a well made 43 . Forts once again was dismissed out of his ground , this time stumped but Andy and Dan took the score past 3 figures before Dan went for 23 . Andy and Lloydy were dismissed within a couple of overs and following a couple of crashing boundaries from Louis , some poor running created two run outs and with Terry last man out , we had posted a total of 153 all out , not a bad score at all with the wicket still being helpful to the bowlers and leaden skies all round .
As is so often the case , early wickets were the main call of the day and both Louis and Styler grabbed a wicket each to leave OE's on 10 for 2 , a similar start to our innings . The repetition was continued as the visitors no 3 and 4 ( their Aussie ) slowly built up a partnership of 71 before Styler removed the no 3 in completeing a spell of 13 overs for just 15 runs . With the score on Nelson , the 4th wicket fell to Andy and when the Aussie finally was dismissed ( having been dropped twice , how important those drops were ) by Kit thanks to a fine catch by Louis , the visitors were looking unsteady on 123 for 5 . This soon became 132 for 7 as Louis took another wicket and a fine run out by Lloydy increased the pressure . The total moved on to 147 before Andy struck twice in one over meaning that 7 runs were still required for victory with one wicket remaining . Alas another dropped catch was to prove fatal as the winning runs were hit in the 46th over to clinch victory for the visitors by 1 wicket .
Frome shoud be proud of the way that they battled all the way throughout the game , once again the toss had gone against us but the fighting spirit shown bodes well for the rest of the season .
