Under 15 XI vs. Brockhampton - 15 May - First game of the season

I think we all approached this tie with low expectations and, as far as the weather was concerned, we were not disappointed. However, our performance for this very first game of the season (and against the mighty Brock) gives great cause for enthusiasm. Despite having only 8 players, we were not outplayed and every single member of the team gave a very good account of themselves. It seems a shame to single out highlights when the team gelled so well in both spirit and performance but highlights there were - so here we go:
Tom Day – top scorer with 23 runs.
George Harris – 14 Not out (George eventually ran out of partners or as Ben might have it ‘George ran out his partners). Either way a solid performance from the both of them.
Ben Day fielded like a demon and threw a great ball at the stumps that the batsman only just got back in time for!
Jonny Mackereth was our most economical bowler by far with an average 5.25 in 4 overs.
Marcus Richards was a revelation behind the sticks, taking a catch and two stumpings!
The whole team should be looking forward to the next fixtures when we should be able to field a full team of eleven strong players. If we keep up the team spirit that we witnessed last night despite the cold, rain and the dark, we are in with a very good chance against all our opponents, including Brock. I have to say that Brockhampton last night, under Richard Binnersley, were very sporting – thank you to them for making it a good game played in good spirit.
Finally, thank you to Badge for umpiring. He was so impressed and enthused by the obvious potential of this U15 squad that he has offered to manage and coach the side for the rest of this season. Thank you, Badge.
Team: Arthur Harris (c), Tom Day, Marcus Richards (w), Joe Davies, Jonny Mackereth, Ed Metcalfe, George Harris and Ben Day
