First XI vs. Goodrich - 08 Jul - Frome Lose Again but not without a fight!

Canon Frome went into this game knowing it was going to be a test against the unbeaten, top of the league, Goodrich.

The toss was won again and on a slightly damp track, Frome asked Goodrich to bat. Things started well with Kit bowling at a good pace and had their opener caught at Third Man and then had the number 3 dropped by Skip at slip later on. Andy & Louis both bowled poorly in initial spells but both came back strongly. The pick of the bowling came from Neil Andrews, who's military medium proved too good for a lot of the Goodrich batsmen although he finished wicket less. Lloydy also bowled quite well and tied Goodrich down until 10 overs to go where the score was around 180. Then came on David Dickinson (AKA Harry) who bowled quite tidy. Now Goodrich had a stroke of luck, their keeper had to retire hurt bringing in Rufus Davies. Now he decided that Harry's fake tan wasn't quite orange enough and his belly wasn't round enough so to punish him, he started spanking him round the Frome. First six landed in Harry's back garden, second in the car park at the trumpet & the third by Marcus' car! This with the help of some ordinary fielding led them to a total of 257-4.

Frome still thought they could make the total and set off positively with Marcus & Andy. Skip played very positively and took one for the team when their quick opening bowler, bowled a full toss that split his box in half. The next 3 balls were played from square leg in a way that Jonny Williams would be proud of! Marcus went for 6 with the score on 63 and that set off the run of wickets. James Hughes went cheaply then Neil got done first ball by a left arm round the wicket spinner who pitched the ball 1 foot outside the leg stump and hit middle. Fortnam also went cheaply bringing back the self-titled "Bald & Handsome" Nick Frost who went about bashing a few boundaries. Skip then fell playing one shot too many for 85 with the score on 130. Orgee, Dan Watkins & Frosty all then went and with Kit deciding to wander up the pitch 2nd ball to the spinner turning the ball square went for a duck also. This left Louis & Lloydy to confidently drag the team up 181-9 with 8 points safely in the bag.

Frome performance described like Harry's fake tan, patchy in all departments!
