First XI vs. Himbleton - 04 Aug - 2nd Win at Last!

Frome 1st XI set out with a generally youthful team to Himbleton with optimism under the blue skies. The optimism was furthered as Fortz won a toss and elected to bat, dispelling rumours he's a lousy coin tosser! Paul and Kit set out to bat over the undulating outfield. Progress was slow during the first ten overs, with plenty of playing and missing going on from both openers as the himbleton bowlers bowled tidily. But then the switch flicked in Paul's head and his alter ego "boom boom afridi" took over as he carted the himbleton bowlers through slip and gully to a thoroughly entertaining 36, no mean feat considering the lack of use of the middle of his shiny new bat, earning him the nick name "top edge" Andrews. After Paul and Kit and used all the luck, Dave "itchy and scratchy" Huckerby suffered the misfortune of being run out by......Kit middling his only shot of the day back at the stumps. Neil swung hard for 22, Kit nicked one to the keeper having stodged to 73 a la boycott, Fortz waved the bat to good effect though failed to lay a bat on one, so it was left to Badge and the "Amazing" Lloydy to see out the overs and post a very competitive total of 234-6 from the 50.

Frome came out to field excitedly and the Himbleton openers got off to a good start in the first few overs to cries of "'Av it" and "ooh and again" from the opening bat. Soon the openers had " 'ad it" as Badge snaffled a catch whilst the whole team held its breath, and Neil cleaned up the other opener with the slowest of slower balls, claims that the batsman fell asleep during the ball's flight have been strenuously denied by Neil Andrews! Lloydy came into the attack and was Amazing again, making the batsman fall asleep with his methodical bowling, inducing the no.4 to sky one to Kit on the boundary who caught it much to the surprise of the rest of the team! "Top edge" Andrews bowled a tidy spell from the other end, TURNING ONE past the batsman's pads onto his middle peg, in between disappearing over the hedge to claim 2 wickets. "Dan Watkins" bowled a exceptionally tight spell to restrict the batsmen, before Kit came on to mop up the tail to claim figures of 6-48. An outstanding Frome performance with Bat, ball and in the field! A late push for the league title perhaps??
