First XI vs. Bartestree - 15 Jul - In form Frome take maximum points!

Frome started this game knowing that a win would step them above the 3 teams beginning to fight over relegation. Just one change from the week before James Hughes had to go shopping for curtains so "not so bald & handsome" was brought in AKA Chris Frost.

Things started badly when the toss was lost and Frome were asked to field and opening bowler Kit Smith couldn't get back from his Hair & Nails appointment in Malvern to take the new ball. Therefore Andy (Skip) took the new ball and got a wicket in his first over. Louis also bowled tight again and when Smith turned up he got so over excited he was wided twice for bouncers over the batsmen's head.

The wickets then began to fall at regular intervals with Smith (3-30) bowling quick, Louis (2-28) very accurate, Skip (3-17) feeling old, bowling in short spells and Lloydy 1-2 of 6 overs. There was also a small intercession from the senior section with Andrews (1-11) and Dickenson (0-11). In the end Bartestree were bowled out for 104, possibly more than should have been but with a good track and a quick outfield the target should have been simple enough.

Frome went out after tea knowing they had 59 overs to get 105. Dan & Andy led the way and after Dan went for a duck in just the 3rd over of the innings it left Andy & Fortnam with the only chance to get maximum points from the game. Fortnam (37*) played very well cashing in whenever a loose ball game. Andy however was getting worked over at the other end by another quick bowler hitting him where he shouldn't. They both moved on smoothly enough and in the 26th over Andy it a pulled six over square leg which brought up his fifty, 100 partnership and the win (20pts) that Frome so desperately wanted.

Overall a good game that Frome played well in all departments, bring on Crickhowell next week………
