Second XI vs. Hanley Castle & Upton - 09 Jun - Close but no cigar!

Having miraculously won the toss Canon Frome invited Hanley Castle to bat first early wickets were taken by new boy Imran Rafi bowling Lewis for 3.Further early successes by Cassidy and Cotterell rocked the Hanley side reducing them to 50 for 5 after 20 overs. The game was swinging towards Canon Frome when captain C Robinson came to the crease. This was the inspiration that Hanley needed and almost single hand idly Robinson (38) steered the side to a very respectable 142 all out in the final over.

Still in good spirits and thinking of victory openers Child and Frost took the score to 40 after 10 overs. Child went first attempting an adventurous cut off J Lewis and was out for 13.Nick Frost continued to take the attack to Hanley but was out having contributed a quick fire 29.

Steadying the ship for Frome was T Cassidy who looked in fine form having not played for a number of months. Slowly Hanley put the brakes on the home side reducing Frome to 126 for 6 after 37 overs.

The win was still on!

Tight bowling from Hanley caused the home team to falter with the final over being one of the most exciting for many a year. Allen Mawby stroke a splendid 6 into the hedge however needing just 2 runs to win a mistimed on drive went straight to a Hanley fielder who gratefully accepted the sharp chance causing their team to celebrate like never before. To be accurate 20 months which
Was the last time they won a game!

Again Frome snatched the jaws of defeat from a winning position but in traditional style celebrated a great game with the opposition at the Trumpet.
