Second XI vs. Worcester Dominies - 28 Jul - WE WON THE TOSS AGAIN AND STILL LOST

Following our victory against Barnards Green 2 weeks ago this game was supposed to be a further step up the league table.

For the 2nd game running Terry Nixon tossed up and won, inviting Dominess to bat. We started well enough taking 2 early wickets for less than 25 runs. Good bowling from Calvin and Mat Morgan maintained a stranglehold on the Worcester side before A Wilks made a telling contribution for the away team. He was the mainstay of the innings and whilst wickets tumbled at the other courtesy of some fantastic catching by Andrew shovel hands Potter in particular Wilks piled on the runs finishing with 98 out of 202. (202 for 8 with Calvin taking 5 for 44 in 17 overs and Terry Cassidy taking 2 for 83 after 15 overs).

It was only in the last 10 overs that Frome conceded runs however once this total was posted it was always going to be an uphill struggle to secure another outright win.

Poor batting by the openers put the home team under some pressure and at one stage Frome were 5 for 52. The highlight of the game was the return to form of Sean Andrews. Sean made a significant contribution scoring 56 in a dogged and controlled manner. The home support, including me (David Child ) and his dad really enjoyed his knock especially when he struck 3 sixes in one Oliver Meadows over. He really should believe in his tremendous and hard-hitting ability.

Other highlights included Luke Cotterell diving forwards for a important catch having not graced the field at Canon Frome for 9 years and better still Mat Morgan fielding a ball at deep third man off his own bowling!!!!!!!!!!.

Lastly I am sure we would all like to thank George for preparing an excellent wicket despite the inclement July weather. Thanks George.
