First XI vs. Crickhowell - 22 Jul - Tea Time Rain Dance Saves Frome!

Frome started the day looking to cause an upset against Crickhowell 2nd in the league. Things started well with skip winning the toss and deciding to bat.

Andy went out to open with Louis after looking good in previous game and the decision proved to be a good one with them putting on 69 for the fist wicket. Louis (15) could have been LBW a couple of times before eventually playing a loose drive in the air to the fielder. Andy brought up his fifty with yet another boundary and things were looking good.

Unfortunately this was as good as it got for Frome. Andy (60) was caught out hooking a bouncer from there off-spinner (Ben Morgan). James Fortnam then came and went after a first ball duck where he was adjudged LBW and in a Neil Andrews Stylie claimed it had hit his bat before the pad! Then as if the "pretender to the crown" of disputing decisions had stepped up to try and take the title, the old master arrived at the crease (Neil Andrews) to show us how it's really done. Neil safely negotiated the first ball but when the second one came down he some how hit the case off it, into his pad and was caught behind. It an outrageous display of petulance the bowler had the nerve to appeal? Does he not know who he's bowling too? Apparently the umpire didn't realise too, Neil was given out and quite rightly chucked all the toys out of the pram and then picked them up again, just to chuck them out again!

James Hughes (8) looked as if he was trying to get out for such a long time but couldn't find a way so decided a one-legged pull for a full ball on off stump gave him the best chance and he was on his way. That brought Marcus (7) to the wicket and not to be out done by James & Neil also was given out and lived to dispute the decision. This did look slightly harsh but in the post-mortem the next day the square leg umpire (Fortnam) decided that if he was out then so was everyone else!

Big Frosty (2) then got an in swinging yorker that hit leg stump (later confessed he thought it was going to be a wide!) Dan Watkins (4) got a slower ball which accounted for him and when Harry Orgee went for 5 that left new man Jacob James & Lloydy to get the score up to a respectable level. They couldn't, when Jacob got another yorker it left Frome 133 all out of 30 overs.

Tea was had and with the rain threatening they took to the field for Crickhowell's innings. Louis opened with a maiden and as the field was being set the rain came down. Even with the covers the pitch was waterlogged in minutes and the game abandoned.

There was talk that we could still have bowled them out but in truth the rain saved them after yet another poor batting performance.

Next week, Talgarth Away..................
