Sunday XI vs. Burghill 2nd XI - 28 Apr - The First Game........

The season kicked off in earnest with the first home game taking place between Canon frome 2nd team and Burghill 2nd team. On a warm and sunny day the ground, having benefited from some TLC over the winter, looked perfect. Thanks for this must go to a small number of players but the main credit belongs to George Whittaker. Well-done George.

Having lost the toss Canon Frome were invited to bat first. This proved to be a justified decision with the home side struggling to 22 for 3 after 13 overs .The recovery came from a splendid partnership by Sean Andrews (38) and Dan Watkins (26) who put on 36 before the 4th wicked fell for 58.Further wickets fell however valuable contributions were made by Terry Nixon and Matt Morgan who made 29 apiece.
With 1 over remaining the score had progressed to a respectable 159 giving the visitors some work to do.


In response Burghill Put on 21 runs before the first wicket was taken by Dan hills. The next wicket was also taken by Dan hills as S. Kamjadphai edged it behind to be taken by the evergreen George Whittaker. Ian Oliver made an impressive contribution of 41 before he was caught off Mat Morgan. The wickets came too slowly and the runs too quickly and in the 39th over D Williams hit the winning runs in some style as he hammered the ball for six over mid on.
