First XI vs. Bartestree - 13 May - Rain Saves Sorry Frome

The day began with rain early on and Canon Frome's open top covers came into their own. The rain cleared early in the morning and by the start of play the pitch looked dry. Selection was again a problem with several of Frome's "Big Gay Bears" missing, although very plausible excuses were supplied.

Andy lost the toss and Bartestree decided to have a bowl. James & Dave started well until James (2) nicked one behind with his fishing rod, Dave looking good again. Andy (9) joined him at the crease and after two boundaries threw his wicket away. Dave (14) followed with a lazy shot into Mid-wicket's hands leaving new man Dave Childs (13) with "million dollar man" Dan Watkins. After much treading water by both batsmen the new man was Run Out! Matt Richards (3) went in and decided that he didn't want to get his hair wet with the impending rain, so paddled one up to the man at short mid-wicket. This left Dan Watkins to hit some stunning shots (at the fielders) while James Hughes back after his self imposed exile played with the same panache he always had.

Soon after the rain came down at 86 for 5 and as the P&O ferry sailed across the square the umpire decided to call off the games for the next 3 weeks! Even if the covers (arriving Tuesday) had been working it wouldn't have saved the game.

Next week away at Crickhowell, all we can hope is that availability improves with Neil closing down at least one of his multi-million pound companies, Styler over his headache and Marcus his broken thumb nail!
