First XI vs. Barnards Green - 10 May - Rogers Ton in vain as Frome Fall just Short

Canon Frome started the season off with a close encounter versus Barnards Green on a scorching afternoon with the ground looking a picture.

Canon Frome won the toss and decided to bowl first with new signing Sam "Ginger Italian Stallion" Beal (3-63) opening up and taking the first wicket of the season with Louis "The Chav" Watkins bowling without any luck through (0-33), skipper Andy Rogers (3-42) then reduced the visitors to 85-4 when the recovery started with some punishing batting they moved on to 205-4 through 40 overs. Then the 2 spinners Dan Watkins ( 2-25) and young debutant Stevie Wilson (1-13) slowed the rate and managed to restrict the visitors to 261-9 in the 50 overs.

Frome's start to the innings was steady but lost 3 wickets quite early, Paul "Boom Boom" Andrews (0), Louis Watkins (6), Chis Styles (2) leaving them 32-3 when skipper Andy Rogers (115) joined vice-captain James "Love you long time" Fortnam (47) at the crease. Fortnam fell to a run out and the wickets began to fall, Neil "it stopped on me!!!" Andrews (15), Dan Watkins (12), Sam Beale (4) left Rogers with a lot of work to do chasing down 7 and over with wickets falling. Max Backhouse (9) & Matt "Badger" Richards (1) were out leaving the young Wilson (4) with Rogers to try and get the last few runs required. Rogers fell for 115 in the 47th over 22 runs short of victory, all out 240.

Solid performance from Frome for the first game of the season even if the result was disappointing but looking forward to taking on Burghill next weekend.
