First XI vs. Himbleton - 07 Jun - Frome fall 1 run short!

Canon Frome went into this game under strength and carrying a couple of injuries but still confident that a win could be achieved.

Frome won the toss and decided to bowl and chase later in the game as they did successfully last week. On a hard track they got off to a poor start with the home side's opener opening his arms and the total raced to 38 of just 6 overs. Teenage duo of L.Watkins (4-69) & Morgan (3-57) managed to control the flow of runs and restrict the home side early on. Then came 13 year old Stevie Wilson the demon leg spinner who has taken wickets regularly this season, to bowl 8 overs 3 for 37. He changed the game and with support from the rest of the young bowling attack restricted Himbleton to 255 all out.

Frome's reply was solid with P.Andrews (25) regaining some form with the bat and L.Watkins (47) giving them a solid start. Rogers came in with the score on 95-3 and immediately set about on the attack. He scored 6 sixes and 3 fours in his 74 to push the home side towards the victory line. In fact when him and Morgan (51) were together the game looked easy but in the end the total was too much for 15 year old Morgan who fell to the penultimate ball after some ferocious hitting (3 sixes, 4 fours) leaving Stevie Wilson to score 2 off the final ball. In canon Frome style he went for the victory rather than a draw and was unfortunalty bowled leaving them 254-9.

A solid display by a young Frome side who really took the game to a more experienced side. Confidence will be taken into the game against Martley next week with the older members trying to regain their places in the side.
