Second XI vs. Builth Wells - 29 Jul - 14 Year Old Causes Mayhem

Frome 2s needed 20 points to have a chance of survival and they duly obliged against Builth Wells.

Canons won the toss and surprisingly choose to bat, this decision looked even stranger at 27 for 4 with Terry, Potter, Mal and skipper Mr C all gone for 7 between them, however at the other end "Boots"Barnett was making it look easy he was joined by Frosty snr and the innings was rebuilt.

Charlie steadily made his way to 41 before he was bowled although he was actually fed up of trying to run himself out. Frosty was joined by Sammy the seal and the pair added a few before the former was out for a well hit 65. This brought to the crease 14 year old Jacob James at this point the score was 134-6 still a bit short but this was about to change, Sammy was out and Jacob decided to smash the ball to all parts, hitting 4 huge sixes and pummelling their ageing spinner for 57 in 5 overs, Jake was eventually out for 78 off 50 balls, a fantastic knock, Frome batted out and ended 236-9 Jacob scoring 78 out of 102 runs. For Builth Jones 5-30 and Jones 0-38 were the pick.

The Builth reply started badly with Frosty picking up 2 wickets early and Boots tidy at the other end. Jones then came to the crease and hit 61 before skipper Mr C picked him up, Potter came on to bowl and got slapped a bit (not helped by the fielding) but then found his line and bowled some peaches.

At one point Builth were on top, although the opener, Jones, was caught behind twice and caught and bowled but the umpire didn't agree, then Mr C picked up another wicket and Jones was run out, Frome were on top.

Some proper fielding by the kids Tom Potter and Rich Watkins assisted the bowlers and Mr C got another and Charlie got 2. Mr C ended up with 3-57, Charlie 2-36, but Frosty finished it with a great catch from Rich Watkins to end up with 4-40 (bowling buffet style) however Jacobs superb knock earned him man of the match. Bring on Moccas.
