First XI vs. Alveley - 28 May - Getting closer to that first win of the year!

Alveley won the toss and decided to bowl first in early overcast conditions.

Against some very good bowling early on from Alveley opener Turford, scoring was hard for N. Evans and P. Andrews against the new ball. After the ball had softened and the Alveley bowlers began to tire, it became easier to score on a very good batting track. Evans (5) fell early attempting a hook shot, James (22) fell after a decent partnership with Andrews (31). This brought the superb S. Wilson to the crease, who hit some delightful shots in an innings of 85. Andrews fell after the 29th over, and from there the only real contributor apart from Wilson was Mutu (31). Canon Frome ended on 213 which never really looked enough on a good batting track.

Morgan managed to pick up an early wicket with a superb delivery to bowl Jones. Lloyd then managed to pick up a wicket catching the edge of the Alveley bat, and being snaffled by stand in keeper J. James. This brought Twigg (69) and Bent (62) to the crease, and after some superb clean hitting from Bent, the game seem to be beyond Frome with Alveley just needing 60 with 7 wickets in hand. Frome raised there game in the field and managed to get Bent out, before Miller and Morgan picked up wickets later on. But Alveley managed to scrap there way over the line with 5 wickets in hand. A very good effort against top of the league.
