First XI vs. Amblecote & Wollaston - 04 Jun - Superb performance sees Canon Frome 1st XI pick up first win of the season

Canon Frome lost the toss and were put in to bat in overcast conditions. The A&W bowlers used the always important new ball well, restricting Frome to 36 off 10 overs with Styles and P.Andrews opening the batting. The first wicket of Styles (17) fell after the 12th over with Frome on 42, Wilson then came in against a still swinging ball before falling for a brisk 19. Frome looked in trouble at this point with only 70 scored off 20 overs, the situation was worsened when Smith (1) and Baldwin (12) fell soon after. This brought K.Anthony to the crease who quickly overtook his batting partner, Andrews' score, scoring a superb 61 with some delightful shots in there as well as Andrews also passed his half-century. That 111 partnership saw Frome move from a worrying position of 95 for 5, to a commanding 206 for 6. Morgan then joined Andrews, and some superb hitting from both of them saw them rocket from 206 to 297 in the space of just 6 overs. Morgan fell for a superb 49 off just 24 deliveries. Evans then came to the crease and hit a nice quick 15 at the latter end of the innings before P.Andrews finally fell in the 47th over for a magnificent 118 off 123 balls (including 11 4's and 7 6's). The Canon Frome innings ended on a superb 339 for 9 from there 50 overs!

Ablecoate & Woolaston's innings didnt get off to a good start, which they needed if they were going to chase down this big total set for them, as they lost captain Parker for 5 off Morgans bowling leaving the visitors 9 for 1. A&W's number 3 soon followed after some excellent new ball bowling from Smith got the wicket he deserved, which left the total seeming less and less likely. Smith picked up his 2nd wicket (Frome's 3rd) 4 overs later which left A&W 63 for 3 off 13 overs. Some good tight bowling from the Canon Frome bowling attack saw the game slowly fade away from A&W who decided that a losing draw would be best for them and never really gave the total any go of trying to get it and apart from some late big hitting from opener Pearsall (90), there wasnt really much life in the game after the early wickets fell. Baldwin, Anthony and P.Andrews also picked up wickets in a very good bowling/fielding performance from Canon Frome who fielded with 10 men for 45 overs of the innings.
