First XI vs. Alveley - 30 Jul - Magic Morgan's 9 wicket haul guides Frome to crushing victory

Frome lose the toss and are put in to bat on a damp(ish) track.

J.Fortnam and N.Andrews opened as Frome looked to get off to a good start. Both batted very positively and with regular 4's the score kept ticking over nicely. N.Andrews fell in the 9th over with the score at 42 being bowled round his legs by the Alveley opening bowler. Fortnam followed shortly after with the score remaining the same. This brought the in form P.Andrews and K.Smith to the crease. They batted superbly in testing conditions to get the score from a dangerous 42 for 2 to a commanding 186 for 2 off 40 overs with a superb 144 partnership. P.Andrews fell after a superb delivery from the Alveley opener clipped top of off stump for 52. Smith followed soon after for a superb battling 69, from here the Frome innings never really took off with brief cameos from Morgan and D. Wilson saw the score climb to 249 all out off 49.5 overs.

Frome knew they had to bowl well to defend this decent total against a very strong looking Alveley batting attack. The innings got off to a superb start with D.Wilson taking a sensational 1 handed diving catch at backward point off Morgans bowling. This brought in Tromans who looked awful at the start of the innings, before regaining his composure to score a decent 70. After the first wicket fell, wickets began to fall at regular intervals. Morgan picked up the huge wicket of Alveleys run machine Bent (who was averaging 110 before todays game) for 0. Baldwin bowled well in tandem with his opening bowling partner Morgan but with no reward. Smith came into the attack and bowled a superb 14 overs for 30 picking up 1 wicket, but in comparison to Morgans second spell that was nothing. Morgan came back into the attack later on in the Alveley innings (after having picked up 3 wickets in his previous spell) with Frome firmly in control. Then down to some superb bowling from Morgan and superb catching behind the stumps from Fortnam, Morgan tore through the Alveley middle and lower order to pick up sensational figures of 13 overs, 9 wickets for 57!
