First XI vs. Barnt Green - 01 Sep - Frome finish season flying high

Canon Frome finished the season with another victory (7th of the season) to make sure they finished in 3rd ahead of opponents Barnt Green.

In a slow scoring game Luke Cottrell took 5 wickets taking him up to 32 for the season at an average of 12.63, Ben Child bowled the best he has all season taking 18 wickets in total. Skipper Andy Lloyd took 4 wickets, 25 wickets for the season with more maidens than anyone else, 25 throughout the summer ;-).

Restricting the visitors to 172 was a fantastic effort and Frome gave themselves a bit more time (4 overs) and took their time getting there. Dave Child rolled back the years seeing off the new ball but Frome quickly finding themselves 3 down with Simon Cottrell & Nicko Evans at the crease. Simon was solid, Nicko antagonistic! Simon caressed the ball into the off side, Nicko bludgeoned (quote David Huckerby) the ball through the on side. Nicko entertained the crowd showing his early season form encouraging a few shouts of "fetch it out ‘the stingers!!"

They should have finished the game off but in true Frome style Nicko said "everyone gets a bat down the Frome!" ran up the wicket, out stumped on 88! The "lemming" style procession followed leaving Lloydy and James Godsall to finish the game with Frome 7 down.


Under difficult circumstances this season the team has bonded together and been well led by Lloydy. With a bit more luck early season the 3rd place finish could have been even better but can't complain after the poor start. Click on the link to see the averages and the final league tables.
