First XI vs. Garnons - 03 Jun - Frome in Second Place!

With the majority of the "hardcore" 1st team batting line up missing with various excuses of varying quality (Andy Rogers' being the worst -stag doos are for wet weekends) this game was always going to be a struggle. Regardless of the result of the toss we knew we would be chasing leather first off.

Kit and Louis opened the bowling, both putting in excellent spells with Kit taking a wicket in his first over and ending up with 11 overs 4 wickets for 47 and Louis taking one for 44 from his 10. The first bowling changes brought on Andy Lloyd and Terry Cassidy, who also put in good performances ultimately taking 2 wickets each. So with the only 60 on the board for 5 with some 20 overs down we couldn't have asked for a better start. It all went down hill from there. Neil Andrews, Charlie B and Luke failed to take any wickets between them and were rather taken apart. Garnons no 3 Bendall had some good luck missing fielders with his aerial routes and ended up on 89. Match winner Brace belted 52 before falling to Louis' confident LBW shout. With contributions from all Garnons batters they ended up on 289 for 9. So 4 points in the bag we then set about the run chase.

It is always going to be worry if Badger Richards is opening the batting for the first XI, but he managed to survive multiple airshot swipes and wisely avoided the bowling of Brace who was picking off our top order at the other end. Badger ended up top scorer on 22 before losing his head when the Griff came on with his tame spin endeavours. No one else managed double figures other than the extras. 54 was the final score with Charlie B. remaining the not out batsman on 0. All wickets being catches or bowled so we couldn't even blame poor umpiring decisions. All rather humiliating, but the sun was shinning, a fantastic pitch, decent opposition and reasonable beer so we have all had worse days. With a full strength team CFCC would have made this a more even contest so looking forward to the return fixture. Other notable performances: two great catches from Andrew Potter, excellent work from Fortnam behind the sturmps (great catch included)
