First XI vs. Netherton - 01 Jun - Not as easy as it looked , after winning toss and on 77 for 5. ..

Looked an easy win? Not so at 77 for 5 and the ball swinging more than ..well a swing ball. Andy Rogers started to restore respectability to the total, but It was a family affair that took us out of trouble with Stevie And Dave Wilson scoring 50s in the mid order to take us to to 185 for 5. Stevie finished up on 67 and Dave on 51. An outstanding partnership, despite some occasional sibling rivalry that led to them looking to run each other out. The skipper Lloydy showed up with a useful 23 with Luke going for a cheeky stroll neatly rounding off a 10 wicket loss on the final ball of the 45 overs..but with 239 on the board and a pitch offering some stodge that looked a useful total.

And so it was. Netherton never tonned . They never really got going at all and despite the openers showing some skills the Frome took wickets frequently and Netherton quickly fail behind the rate. The worry was then that they would put up the shutters with 20 + overs to go. Some encouraging words from Fortz pushed them to play a few shots and wickets tumbled. They finished on a 83 from 31 overs . So with Frome winning the toss another 24 point maximum was in the bag.

What a great day for the Frome .. A comment from a Life Member with 65 + years experience ...it was like the old days. A significant number of spectators young and old. Special mention for Mr and Mrs Cotrell for an excellent tea. Considered opinion was the egg sandwiches with a granary bread were a winner.

All in all a super day for Canon Frome.
