First XI vs. Coombs Wood - 06 Jul - A convincing win on a beautiful day at the Frome.

Temperatures were rising but it wasn't just the sunshine that had players hot under the collar... However Canon Frome rose above some untoward comments and secured an easy win. Frome lost the toss and Coombs Wood elected to bat. Their openers stuttered somewhat but capitalised on some loose balls to push to 35 before Nicko took out opener Butterworth who was beginning to look expansive. I can report Badger was pleased to take a decent catch at deep square leg and avoiding the TFC for the day.
Scoring was slow despite the lightning fast outfield, and Coombs W got to 187 at the close. 40 being extras...Majority of runs off the bat being scored by Lawson and Cannon at 50 each. Wickets shared out amongst nicko (2), Ben c. (1), Lloydy (1) , Luke (2) and Rogers (2).
A very satisfactory tea, despite there being no tea (boiler not on in time) , this author approved of the coronation chicken sandwiches as well as the egg... thanks Pete Elkington.
So to the second half. Backhouse and Hopey opened and looked comfortable but were being out scored early doors by the extras. Neither were too keen to run on a hot day . Hope hitting 4 sixes in his 29, and Alec, three x 4s, before falling possibly through frustration. Rogers appeared to be playing 20-20 rules and with Pete E crossed the finished line in under 20 overs. Finishing on 88 and 30 respectively, with Andy smashed 80 of those from boundaries.. Once again brilliant support on the bank. Thanks to all.
