First XI vs. Netherton - 03 Aug - Low scoring game but plenty of tension and good cricket

On an overcast day with rain threatening and a damp track but flat track, Lloydy was wise to lose the toss and let Netherton make the brave decision to bat first. Looked unwise with three down for 11 which set the tone for the day. A fearsome opening spell from Nicko had the opener backing away and hitting his own wicket in the first over.. the following ball saw the dismissal of their no3 with an excellent catch from Mark G diving to his right at third slip. Lloydy kept up the assault at the other end with some accurate swing bowling. They who shall not be named put down two chances in the slips so it took another excellent performance from Simon Cottrell who had the benefit of gloves to make amends finishing with five catches behind the stumps.. surely that is worthy of a jug ? Nice catch at short leg from Luke too..
Ben joined the attack and also delivered on the day getting some movement despite the ball getting older and softer. He ended on 7 overs 3 for 38 including a useful caught and bowled.
Lloydy removed shot a ball Tariq clean bowling the big fella for 23 and with Nicko returning to take the final wicket of Ahmed who was keen to come down the track and meet him halfway, finally edged one to the keeper.
So Netherton ended on 106 with Lloydy 12 overs 4 for 41 and Nicko 9 overs 3 for 13. An excellent performance save for those drops from Badge and Backie. Oops.
With Frome collecting the Netherton overs giving them 60 to play with they required less than 2 an over. To cut to the chase Netherton dialled up 54 extras so actually Frome only needed to hit a run an over to win. Some early wobbles had Alec B, Simon C and Nicko back on the bench early doors but this was all right up Godsall seniors street and once joined by Lloydy they batted very sensibly to knock off the necessary runs net of the wides and byes. Once they had done most of the hard work of leaving the limited menu of short and or wide deliveries and nurdling the ones and two, the DNBs were keen to come out and hit the winning runs but Lloydy and Mark were having none of that and actually secured the 107 total in the 37th over.
So an important 24 points and back on top. Bring on Cutnall Green for the top of table clash at the Frome next week
