First XI vs. Cutnall Green - 10 Aug - 24 points and Frome are now 45 clear at the top of the table.

Frome Arrived at the ground fired up and ready to avenge the away defeat to Cutnall Green and put some distance on them at the top of the table...

Lloydy won the toss, and with the line up on hand understandably chose to bat. Another option might have been to bowl, take the wickets of the 6 players who were available at the start of the game and get down to the Hopton early doors.

With Frome lending a fielder, proceedings got underway and the opposition finally reached 9 players some 10 overs into the game; by then the writing was on the wall. Mark G never looked phased opening with Stevie W who top edged relatively early but had already made a useful 15. In came James Fortnam who proceeded to deliver a batting master class that KP would have been happy with. Interchanging regular and reverse sweeps combined with cover drives and more. The Cutnall Green skipper called for spare balls to be made ready: he was expecting an aerial attack. Actually, there was little need for tin hats with the majority of shots being played along the ground. Fortz did not offer a chance until Frome were well North of 300. Mark had batted solidly piling on his own run fest for the season ending on 66. Fortnam finally went caught and bowled for 161 having been joined early by Andy Rogers who was not going to miss out being mentioned in dispatches and not in any mood to slow the rate. 11 fielders would not have helped prevent his 3x 6s that would have cleared the 2014 extended boundary now in preparation. Andy was undefeated on 89 having been joined by Nicko for the last couple of overs.

Frome ended on 362Thats over one thousand runs scored in the last three home innings!

Stevie Wilson claimed some credit for the very high quality Victoria and Chocolate Sponge cakes at tea. Thanks really due to Sheila.

So back out to play. Would they take an interest in going for the losing draw ? not really. The opener Latham hung around a while for a creditable 39 but wickets fell relatively frequently and runs dried up. The pitch was not offering too much to the quicks although Andy R got an early result with Saleem playing on and Nicko mopping up at the end of the day. Luke was brought on relatively early to accelerate the process and dutifully delivered 2 wickets in his opening over. He finished on 6 overs 5 maidens 3 for 13; 36 balls of which 33 were dots. Good bowling too from Ben C who also had an excellent run out to his name.

Cutnall Green ended with just 2 points with their 135 all out So Frome are 45 points ahead at the table top.

Back to the Hopton for a couple of beers and thoughts turn to end of season honours for batting and bowling.. and slip catching ?

Thanks to our supporters on the Tump. Three more games to go.. Can Frome hang onto pole position ?
