Under 13 XI vs. Colwall - 23 Jul - A close 'run' thing!

Boy - these U13s keep you on your toes! I'm sure parents would like to just kick back and relax sometime - instead we get agonisingly close to winning in the last over. There are many positives to take from this match - for instance if we were to take just runs from the bat then Canon Frome beat Colwall by 67 runs to 58!
We also displayed superior strength in depth throughout our batting line up. If we take Colwall's top scorer T Hubbard (30) out of the equation then Colwall's next highest scorer hit 7. If we take Canon Frome's top scorer A Harris (31) out of our team then we still had J Watkins (13), M Richards (8) and S Booth (6 - from 8 balls).
It was a fine performance by the whole team - so where did it all go wrong? Answer: Fielding.
We handed Colwall a further 61 Extras from wides, byes and no balls. If we had bowled and fielded better then we would have won this match easily and in fact the Colwall coach admitted he was very concerned as we stormed to 70 within the first 10 overs.
We still did some good fielding though - both Tom Davies and Charlie Cresswell took fine catches, Harry Booth and Charlie Cresswell clean bowled another two batsmen and Jasper Gilbert ran out C Stubbs with a terrific throw from a difficult angle straight into the stumps. There was evidence of good backing up in the field too so a lot to take heart from.
We could easily have won this match - but that's sport! Well done to everyone and, in particular, Arthur for organising the team to clap in the opposition as they walked off the field.
Thank you to Paul for umpiring, Sally for scoring, Kay for managing, Julia for washing up and Lee for helping out with drinks.
