First XI vs. Hereford City - 17 Jun - Close but no cigar!

Stand in skipper Badger continued his form with the toss and so did not have to make the decision. Hereford inevitably chose to bat in the scorching sun.

Frome opening bowlers Louis W and Andy L started well. Keeping the run rate well under control despite the lightning fast outfield. Their 19 overs between them going for just 81. Frome were well pleased to have Hereford 3 wickets down with just 85 on the board at the halfway point. But they accelerated fast with their overseas player Jangem ended up 111 not out ( we had to admit it was a superb innings) and Chalkley with a quickfire 55 having survived a confident caught behind appeal. Dave Huckerby got some punishment in his opening over but held up one end when we were light on bowlers (how many more weddings can Rogers attend in a season?); Charlie B. did a job including an excellent caught and bowled to take danger man Nick Osborne for just 7. Hereford ended up with 253, but all the Frome players were up for the challenge.

We matched Hereford very closely throughout. We would have liked to get ahead of their rate but some good bowling from Allam and Manish kept Marcus and Dan pegged down, after Charlie B was dismissed early doors. However Dan and Marcus built a very useful platform both making 50's. (Marcus-66). A quickfire 43 from Huckerby put us right in contention and with great efforts from James Hughes and Terry Cassidy ( 18 and 14 respectively) we got with 7 runs of the total at stumps. We were not interested in playing for points alone but nonetheless ended up with a very useful 10 points for another great team effort. Bring on Llandod
