Under 11 XI vs. Wormelow - 10 May - First Win of the season

U11s Canon Frome 294 v Wormelow 276 Win
Canon Frome elected to bat first and set a target of 294 for Wormelow to beat. As is so often the case in these U11 Pairs matches the important thing is to play well as a team and not give away your wicket cheaply or bowl waywardly. Jasper Wilce and George Harris opened the batting for the U11s. Fours were scored by Jasper Wilce, Ben Day, Ronan Chowns-Higgs, Ben Webster, Sam Booth x 2, Robbie Warren and Charlie Cresswell - a great performance all round with Ben Webster managing to get 7 runs off just one ball. Unusually, the joint top run scorers, Sam B and Ben W, were in the same pairing - both scoring 11 runs, so now we just needed a robust performance from Robbie and Charlie to finish it off. They protected their wicket well and of course scored Fours into the bargain.
Wormelows turn to bat and our fielding had to be as good as our batting. Harrison took a blow from the ball whilst fielding but was eager to get back into the fray and when he was eventually allowed back on it was to a warm round of applause from both sets of players and the spectators. Wickets were taken by Ben Day, Ben Webster and Sam B who got 2 x wicket maidens. This piled the pressure on Wormelow who managed to get a very respectable 276 but it was not enough to beat our target of 294 and so our U11s posted their first win of the season. Well done the U11s.
Area for improvement next time: We gave Wormelow 61 extras whilst they gave us just 55.
Thanks to our coach Paul and our two scorers Sally and Pete. Thanks too to Wormelow who gave us a real run for our money and contributed to a really good match played in very good spirit.
Finally, thanks to the team: Pair 1 George Harris and Jasper Wilce, Pair 2 Ben Day and Crispin Walsh, Pair 3 Harrison Walker and Ronan Chowns-Higgs, Pair 4 Sam Booth and Ben Webster, Pair 5 Robbie Warren and Charlie Cresswell. Well done to you all!
