Under 9 XI vs. Monmouth - 31 May - Frome undone by "Mr Extras"

players, supporters and admin staff drove through heavy wind and rain on the journey to Monmouth this morning, but weather improved on crossing the border and it was game on for this International. Frome won the toss and decided to put Monmouth in on a drying wicket. No runs were taken from the opening 4 overs from Alex, Bertie, Dougie and Edward but the extras did start to flow and this ultimately was to prove Fromes undoing. Henry took a wicket in his opening over and a great efforts from Zac, Gabriella and Jensen also kept the runs in check. With the third batting pair in for Monmouth Frome kept the pressure on. Splendid stuff from Ollie showing real spirit in only his second game. Dougies second over delivered 2 clean bowled wickets and Frome were feeling positive, but the extras continued to flow and Monmouth ended on 279 with just 21 coming from the bat. Great caught and bowled from Alex in the final over!
Frome opening pair of Zac and Alex put on 18 runs with 2 excellent 4s from Alex. Henry and Bertie also scored 4s and took the score to 34 with no loss of wickets. Monmouth bowled accurately and Gabriella/Jensen did well to lose just the one wicket. Likewise Edward and Ollie who firmly believe fortune favours the brave.. brave indeed with some sharp running between the wickets. very tight bowling prevented the final pair of Bertie and Dougie closing the margin and frome ended up 25 runs short of the total, losing a couple of wickets in the last session. Frome scored 36 runs from bat and lost the same number of wickets as Monmouth (4), but those extras did for the Frome.
