First XI vs. Tenbury - 05 May - Tough start !!

Frome travelled to Tenbury for the first match in the Worcestershire League and were asked to field first. The home side's opener flashed the willow to great effect as they raced to 80 from the first 10 overs before Ted struck the first blow. A degree of control then followed with youngsters Alec and Paul in spinning frenzy on the dry wicket but a combination of sloppy fielding and a deadly dangerous outfield saw the total progress smoothly towards the 200 mark. The arrival of a former Div 1 player saw the ball disappear to all parts as the home side reached 300 for 8 at the end of their 50 overs, my how those extra 5 overs seemed to last for ever! 2 wickets in the innings for Alec, Huckster and Ted, whilst Styler and Paul each picked up 1.

The chase began slowly with very tight bowling from the ex Div 1 player, Andy giving a fine impression of the Jon Wills step away to square leg and Styler managing to edge a good'un to the keeper. Andy and the Huckster then joined forces to post a partnership of 155 for the 2nd wkt but their departure fairly close together signalled the end of the victory charge as Forts apart, no-one managed to keep up the run rate.

Frome ended on 244 for 8, thus gaining the 2 points for a losing draw having reached more than 75% of the first inns total. Tenbury will probably be one of the strongest sides in this league, having 8 new players from last season, time will tell as to how decent a result and performance this was.
