Under 11 XI vs. Eastnor - 19 Jun - First win of the season for Canon Frome U11s.

A much more balanced competition this week . This time around we had two well matched teams who competed to win but with a great spirit of fun and respect. Canon Frome were captained by Bertie who decided to have a bowl having won the toss. A wise decision perhaps with a fast drying wicket, but with just 8 players, fielding was always going to be a challenge. That said Eastnor started well and lost just one wicket in the first pair’s 4 overs. The opener missing a straight delivery from Edward. Well done to Gabriella for an accurate over. Despite excellent bowling from Alex, and Bertie the second pair took the score to 248 and they looked set for a big total. However Frome fought back with Dougie and Jensen taking two wickets each in consecutive overs (great caught and bowled Jensen!) and the score dropped back to 244. Eastnor rebuilt losing just one more wicket to a clean bowled from Henry and ended on 277. Well done to Harry for bowling the crucial last over with just 2 added to the total.
Frome set about the run chase with intent and purpose. Pairs: Jenson and Edward, Henry and Alex, Gabriella and Harry, Dougie and Bertie. All contributed effectively. However it was the extras that did for Eastnor with over 50 wides and numerous no balls. That said Frome lost just 3 wickets and closed out on 288 so a win by 11 runs with Bertie and Alex hitting boundaries in the final pairing.
All round improvements on batting bowling and fielding.. Long barrier made a reappearance. Great fun. Thanks very much to Rob for on field coaching /umpiring and Mrs Badger for teas. Finally to the supporters club; thank you. Our faith in junior cricket and its very purpose has been restored. Well done and thank you to Eastnor for playing their part in that objective; fun for all.
