Under 15 XI vs. Wormelow - 20 Jun - Another win for Canon Frome U15s!
Another lovely evening down the Frome that nearly didn’t happen owing to the biblical amounts of rain we’ve endured recently.
Canon Frome won the toss and elected to bat first posting a respectable 101 runs off twenty overs although I think everyone thought it wouldn’t be enough against a team like Wormelow. Top scorers in our innings were Jasper Gilbert with 22 runs, Tom Davies with 20 and Arthur Harris with 17 so well done to all three of them.
We don’t award ‘man of the match’ performances but if we did then it would be Jasper Gilbert with his top score with the bat hitting the only ‘six’ for our team and top bowling figures for his 4 wickets including a wicket maiden and even a run out from his bowling! A really great performance!
In contrast to last week our catching was back on song with four Wormelow batsmen being dismissed by excellent catching in the field – Joe Davies took a very important catch right in front of the spectators that was really high giving him plenty of time to worry about dropping it - but no worries about that – he took it beautifully. Sylvie Slinger too took an important catch in the game at short mid-wicket. As I get older and my eyesight and memory fail I find I struggle to remember the other two fielders who took catches – I am sure they know who they are and can write to me on a postcard and I will update this report!
Wormelow did their best to chase what was an achievable total but were undone by sharp fielding and fine bowling from Jasper with captain Olly Parker and Arthur Harris joining in the fun. To underscore the massive improvement in our whole game we also effected 3 run outs which just goes to show the effort and concentration of the whole team out in the field. A really great all round performance from the whole team who are genuinely working as a real unit. Do you realise this result gives us 3 wins out of 3!
A big thank you to George Harris for standing down at the very last minute to allow one of our U15s to play. Full credit to you and for standing in for Wormelow for half the game and stopping a certain four from a Canon Frome batsman!!!!?!!!
Thanks as always to Luke for umpiring and to Eric Harris for scoring whilst Sally watched the game with her parents. The lovely teas were provided by the Parkers and the Davies – thank you for that and thank you too to Ali Gilbert for ensuring we got the team together. Ali and her family are on holiday next week (which we means we lose the star player from this last game) so Andy B will be in touch soon to book in next week’s star players.
